This will probably go against what you have been doing but you need to offer your visitors a large variety of categories as they leave. As we said in the problems section how useful would Google or Yahoo be if they only linked to other search engines? By all means have your own category at the top of your list of categories but offer variety. For example, if you have a dating site your categories might look like this: Dating Art Business Clothing Entertainment and so on. This way your users can see sites on the same subject as yours but have other choices. One of the most arrogant statements to come from SEO is "You should only link to similar sites". Excuse us?? Are people interested in only one thing??? Are these "experts" mind readers and know for a fact that just because a web user is on a fishing site he's not interested in anything else? An example: You own a fishing site, and a flower site offers you a link exchange, you refuse it. Well there I am buying flowers on a flower site for my mothers birthday. I see their links and go have look. If all I see are more flower sites I'm going back to a search engine, I have already bought my flowers, so I'm off to look for a fishing site. Who lost out there??? You did... I might have visited your site had you exchanged the link with the flower site. See how this works????
